ZZ Top begin US tour

ZZ Top's summer tour gets underway on July 19th in Bridgeview, Illinois, with opening acts the Pretenders and the Stray Cats. Guitarist Billy F. Gibbons explains that he has long-standing friendships with both of the other acts on the tour: "Well, I've been pals with the Pretenders since Day One. And I actually became pals with Brian Setzer through hot rod automobiles. 'Cause he is a hot rodder from way way back."

Gibbons explain what the simple goal was for this unique lineup: "Number one, to be able to present an interesting lineup from start to finish. And having spoken to the Pretenders and the Stray Cats camp, everybody seems to be in gear to go, they're aiming to please! (laughs)"

ZZ Top was forced to cancel its European tour plans earlier this year, so that bassist Dusty Hill could deal with a benign growth in his left ear, which affected his hearing and balance.
