Bruce Springsteen's right-hand man dies
Bruce Springsteen's longtime assistant Terry Macgovern has died in his sleep at the age of 67. Macgovern, who was a legendary figure in the New Jersey Shore music scene, first met Springsteen in 1971 when he hired Springsteen's band to perform at a club he was then managing in Neptune, New Jersey. Macgovern, who was a Navy veteran, went on to manage Clarence Clemons' Big Man's West club in Red Bank, New Jersey.
In 1987 he formally joined Springsteen to become his full-time assistant both on and off the road. A memorial service was held on Thursday, August 2nd, in Red Bank, New Jersey. Springsteen has yet to make a formal statement regarding Macgovern's death.
Jimmy Vivino, the guitarist for the Max Weinberg Seven and for the Fab Faux, told The Asbury Park Press that, "He was a gentle giant. He always had the time to help me out and be a friend. He was a confidant. He always had a twinkle in his eye, like he had inside information, but he couldn't tell you."
In recent years, Macgovern became a major advocate for ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, after his fiancee died of the disease in 2005.
