Nickelback on critics: "We 're never going to be their darlings"
Nickelback enjoys a massive following around the world, has sold millions and millions of records, and landed seven hit singles just from its last album alone. But critical acclaim is the one thing that has eluded the Canadian quartet -- in fact, most music journalists express an intense dislike for the band. Frontman Chad Kroeger told us that critical acceptance is the last thing he's worried about: [
Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "I think we actually used to pay a little bit of attention to that, and we just kind of accepted it's like, 'Nope, we are never going to be one of those bands, we are never going to be the critic's darlings, and we're okay with that.' Even a lot of critics are kind of like, 'We've done our best to try and get the word out there that as many people as possible should hate this band because we hate this band.' And they've just sort of gone, 'You know what? We can't do it. We cannot convince anybody else to hate this band as much as we do.'" Nickelback just finished a two-year touring schedule in support of its fifth studio album, All The Right Reasons.
The disc has been in the Billboard Top 30 for 102 consecutive weeks since its release in October of 2005.
