Rock quick news

Former Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar will kick off his upcoming tour with a 60th birthday bash in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on October 13th. Hagar will be joined by ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and several celebrity guests at his Cabo Wabo Cantina. After the gig, Hagar and the Wabos will begin a fall tour on October 19th in Biloxi, Mississippi. Meanwhile, the reunited Van Halen featuring singer David Lee Roth stops in Philadelphia on Wednesday night (October 3rd).

The Police have apparently made a big impact on French culture. The rock trio received an award on October 1st for their contribution to the arts. The honor came after playing two sell-out concerts in Paris, which brought in about 80,000 fans. French Culture Minister Christine Albanel recognized the band for their "new sound," saying that France has "full admiration and recognition" for the band's music. Singer Sting said he was "very touched" because the band "deeply admires French culture."

Lostprophets have posted more footage of the band working in the studio on their fourth album. The Welsh group is planning to release the new disc in early 2008. Meanwhile, a demo of a new song called "Weapon" is likely to surface online Tuesday (October 2nd) at the band's MySpace page. (The PRP)

Alice In Chains has added more intimate unplugged shows to its current touring schedule. The band begins a two-week run of its "Acoustic Hour" gigs on October 12th in Jacksonville, Florida during a break from its trek with Velvet Revolver.

Radiohead will issue its seventh studio album, titled In Rainbows, on October 10th as a digital release through radiohead.com. Fans can pay whatever amount they want for the DRM-free MP3 download and will be charged only a small transaction fee. The record will also come out as a special edition box set in early December.
