Eagles album finds its way into shops
It was originally dubbed a one-year Wal-Mart exclusive, but somehow the Eagles' double album, Long Road Out of Eden, found its way into Virgin Megastores and various other shops this past week. RollingStone.com did some digging and discovered that some stores even had the CD displayed in front display cases. A few started selling it on its release date -- October 30th -- while a couple of other Virgin stores began stocking it this week and listing it for $18.99 rather than the more reasonable $11.99 Wal-Mart price, leading to speculation that the CDs were imports. Billboard charts editor Geoff Mayfield said, "Someone told me it was the third-best seller for Virgin." Smaller record stores followed suit, re-selling discs that were bought at Wal-Mart. Mayfield said, "SoundScan was (also) aware that this was happening. They audited the data to weed out double sales." Long Road Out of Eden marks the Eagles' first full-length studio album in nearly 30 years. It debuted at Number One on Billboard's 200 chart, selling 711,000 copies in the United States.
The set is officially available at Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and the band's web site.
