The Eagles vs Britney Spears
The Eagles and Britney Spears both released their highly-anticipated new albums this week. Normally, both would be competing for a the top spot on Billboard's Top 200 album chart. But because the Eagles are doing a Wal-Mart-exclusive release, Billboard doesn't include it on that list. However, if the retailer decides to report the album sales, the number sold would appear on Billboard's other chart of Top Comprehensive Albums. Eagles manager Irving Azoff says the rock band's new set is selling really well so far. He added, "If the Eagles were SoundScanning this week, even though it's only available at one retailer, Britney wouldn't be Number One." Billboard's Top Comprehensive Albums includes catalog titles and proprietary albums from retailers willing to report those sales.
Spears' new album, Blackout, is her first studio release since 2003.
The Eagles released Long Road Out of Eden this week. The band's 1994 live collection, Hell Freezes Over, was Number One for two weeks.
