Eric Clapton announces New York gigs

Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood will team up for three shows on February 25th, 26th and 28th at New York City's Madison Square Garden.

Clapton issued a statement saying, "I have wanted to play with Steve for a long time. I consider him a friend and a truly gifted musician. Our set at the Crossroads Festival this summer was a real treat, so I expect these shows will be good fun for us and for the fans."

According to the official Clapton website whereseric.com, tickets will go on sale first to American Express card holders through a pre-sale beginning November 12th at 9 a.m. (EST).

If tickets remain, a general on-sale date will follow on November 19th at 9 am. through Ticketmaster. Prices have not yet been announced for the tickets and details will be made available at whereseric.com.

Clapton and Winwood co-founded Blind Faith in 1969 with Ginger Baker and Ric Gretch.

Winwood says that playing live has been in his blood for nearly all his life: "That's what I, I kind of started life doing, you know, 13 or 14, playing live, and I've been doing off and on now ever since then."

Among the songs that Clapton and Winwood performed on July 28th were a trio of Blind Faith songs; "Presence of the Lord," "Can't Find My Way Home," and "Not My Cross to Bear"; Traffic favorites "Pearly Queen" and "Dear Mr. Fantasy"; and Clapton's "Cocaine" and Robert Johnson's "Crossroads."
