Led Zep fan pays $173,000 for 2 tickets
A U.K. Led Zeppelin fan has paid 83,000 British pounds, or approximately $173,000 US, for a pair of tickets to the band's upcoming reunion concert, according to BBC News. The tickets were auctioned off to Kenneth Donell of Glasgow, Scotland, with proceeds going to the BBC's Children in Need charity to help disadvantaged youth. Donell won the chance to see the band rehearse and attend the Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert on December 10th at London's O2 Arena, where the surviving members of Zeppelin will perform together for the first time in 18 years. The show was postponed from November 26th after Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page injured his finger.
Page, singer Robert Plant and bassist John Paul Jones will be accompanied on drums by Jason Bonham, son of late Zeppelin drummer John Bonham.
Speculation continues to grow that the concert will lead to a full-blown Led Zeppelin tour. Page recently said it would be "selfish" and "silly" just to do one show, although Plant has been adamant in calling it "a one-night stand."
Meanwhile, Zeppelin's signature song, "Stairway to Heaven," is expected to debut on the U.K. singles charts this Sunday (November 18th) -- 36 years after it was first issued on the band's untitled fourth album. Although a radio staple since that time, "Stairway" was never officially released as a single.
