Meat Loaf's label to pay $5m in lawsuit
Sony Music has been ordered to pay the man who first signed Meat Loaf $5 million in damages for failing to include his company's logo on re-issues of the singer's 1979 Bat Out of Hell album. According to the Associated Press, the move comes after a 1998 court settlement, which decided Sony should include the Cleveland International logo on future copies of the CD. After failing to do so, Sony claimed that leaving out the logo was a mistake that was eventually corrected. Now it has to turn over the money to Steve Popovich, who started Cleveland International Records in 1977. He soon afterward signed Meat Loaf and then convinced Epic Records to release his album.Meatloaf recently had to scrap some shows due to a cyst on his vocal chords. He promises to return to the stage as soon as he recovers.
