My Chemical Romance faces lawsuit
My Chemical Romance reportedly faces a potential lawsuit from the University of Maine after the band canceled a show it was scheduled to play there. According to Gigwise.com, the group scrapped its October 27th concert at the last minute, citing a "medical issue" involving drummer Bob Bryar, although it did play a show the night before (October 26th). The student government has sent two letters to the group asking for $20,500 to cover "lost" costs stemming from the show, including advertising and contractor outlays. Although the band has apparently said it will make up the show, the college has turned the offer down and given the group until November 12th to cough up the cash or risk getting sued.Derek Mitchell, president of student entertainment, told college newspaper the Maine Campus, "Unless it is truly due to sickness or injury of the band, we intend to seek full damages for breach of contract."
Fans who paid with a credit card have already gotten a refund for the show, while cash customers may have to wait as long as six weeks.
My Chemical Romance is currently touring Europe and will head to the South Pacific after that as it continues to support its 2006 album, The Black Parade.
