Clues surface about mystery Green Day project
More clues have surfaced that link Green Day to the Foxboro Hot Tubs, the mystery band that released a six-song EP online this week and may actually be the punk trio in disguise. According to MTV.com, several of the hints also relate to the Network, whose 2003 debut album Money Money 2020 was also rumored to secretly be the work of Green Day. The Hot Tubs' EP, titled Stop Drop and Roll!, was "manufactured" in Green Day's hometown of San Francisco, according to the Hot Tubs web site, while a link to their MySpace page can be found at Green Day's official site. A song on the EP called "She's a Saint, Not a Celebrity" is nearly identical to "Right Hand-a-Rama," a Network tune. Additionally, the EP's back cover features a goat-head-and-martini-glass logo that matches the "Church of Lushotology" symbol found on the Network's web site.
Another song on the EP, called "Ruby Room," reportedly bears a strong resemblance to Green Day's "Hitchin' A Ride," while the band's vocalist sounds suspiciously like Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong.
A spokesperson for Green Day's label, Reprise Records, had no information about the Hot Tubs.
The EP can be downloaded for free at foxborohottubs.com.
Green Day never fessed up to being the Network, and it's doubtful whether they'll confess to also being the Foxboro Hot Tubs.
Green Day is reportedly going to enter the studio in January to begin recording the official follow-up to 2004's American Idiot.
