Eddie Van Halen saves fan from security beating

When an overexuberant fan raced onstage as Van Halen were taking their final bow after their December 5th show at Vancouver's GM Place, security guards were in hot pursuit as he approached the side of the stage. Blabbermouth.net reports that Eddie Van Halen attempted to warn the fan not to go in that direction, as there was a sheer drop-off, but the fan paid no heed and ultimately fell face-first when the curtained floor collapsed beneath him.

Edward can be seen on YouTube footage as he races down the steps on the side of the stage to comfort the injured fan and save him from a potential beating at the hands of security. The unnamed fan told The Rock n' Roll Breakfast Show's Reverend Donnie Black, via email, "After I bailed, I noticed security all around me and I accepted my fate. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder and I thought it was another guard, but I turned and (lo and) behold, it was the mighty Eddie Van Halen. Right away, he asked me if I was alright and told the security to back off and not beat me to a pulp."
