Jimi Hendrix memorabilia sell big at Christie's auction
Several items of Jimi Hendrix memorabilia sold for big numbers on Friday (November 30th). The Associated Press reported that the sale at Christie's Auction House included a copy of Hendrix's 1967 album Axis: Bold As Love, which bears the inscription inscribed "Thanks for everything" and was accompanied by three color photos of Hendrix, sold for double its pre-sale estimate, going for $20,000. In addition to the signed album, three cardboard posters for his 1968 and 1969 concerts sold for $10,625, $16,250, and $18,750, respectively.
Other notable sellers included one of only about a dozen limited edition long-sleeved sweaters promoting the Rolling Stones' 1973 album Goat's Head Soup, which sold for $4,750.
Among the other rock apparel sold during the auction was a Yardbirds T-shirt worn by Bomp magazine founder Greg Shaw at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, which sold for $3,000.
A maroon Led Zeppelin shirt promoting the band's 1973 U.S. tour in support of their Houses Of The Holy album sold for $1,625.
A short-sleeved white shirt with green sleeves bearing the phrase "War is over! If you want it" from John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1971 peace anthem "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)!"sold for $1,875, which slightly below its $2,000 estimate.
