Metallica adding to summer schedule

Metallica continues to add dates to its spring and summer schedule, fueling speculation that the band's ninth studio album will be released around the same time. The quartet is now slated to headline the Netherlands' Pinkpop Festival on May 30th, and will also appear two days earlier on May 28th at Slaski Stadium in Chorzow, Poland. These shows join two previously announced German festival appearances in early June on the group's itinerary. There's no word yet on any North American tour plans or a release date for the new album.

Drummer Lars Ulrich recently told RollingStone.com that as of Thanksgiving, everything but lead vocals and overdubs was recorded, with mixing still to follow.

The band has been working on the follow-up to 2003's St. Anger with producer Rick Rubin.
