The Police drummer apologizes to Chile president
The Police's drummer, Stewart Copeland, has apologized to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet for comments he made about Chile's government during an interview. Copeland had told Chile's Mercurio newspaper in October, "Look, the future President of Argentina would be good for one beer; yours (would be good) for four." According to Reuters, many Chileans took Copeland's comments to mean that their first woman president, Bachelet, is less attractive than the president-elect of Argentina -- Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
Copeland recently wrote a letter distributed to Chile's government, explaining, "I was mortified to learn this remark reached you and you were asked to comment on such a trivial matter." He also invited Banchelet and guests to see the band perform.
The Police performed in Santiago, Chile last night (Wednesday, December 6th).
