Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: No Rock Acts in 2008 induction!
Cleveland will rock in 2009 when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony returns to the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum. Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson announced Wednesday (December 19th) that the ceremony will come back to Cleveland for the first time since 1997 -- when the Jackson 5, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Buffalo Springfield, Parliament/Funkadelic, and others were inducted into the Hall. Hall of Fame + Museum President and CEO Terry Stewart said at the news conference that if the 2009 ceremony goes well Cleveland may host an induction every three years. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which is based in New York, produces the annual induction ceremony and administrates the admissions process. The Hall of Fame + Museum is a separate, private entity. The Hall of Fame + Museum has reported a 10 percent increase in attendance during the past year, due to more special exhibits and a beefed-up marketing campaign.
This year's Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place March 10th at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. John Mellencamp, Madonna, the Dave Clark Five, the Ventures, and Leonard Cohen will be inducted, along with Little Walter in the sideman category. Legendary Philly Soul producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff will receive the newly named Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.
