Scott Weiland arrested for DUI
Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland was arrested on November 21st for driving under the influence of a drug, according to TMZ.com. Weiland was apparently driving his car on a Los Angeles highway at approximately 6:15 p.m. PT when he crashed. Although he escaped injury, California Highway Patrol officers noticed that the singer seemed impaired and administered a sobriety test, which he failed. He also refused to submit for a blood or urine test. Weiland was released on $40,000 bail and will face the charges in court on December 13th.Weiland has a long history of drug-related legal problems. He was first arrested for buying crack in 1995, faced domestic violence charges in 2001, and was busted on a DUI charge in 2003, which led to an extensive stint in rehab just before the release of Velvet Revolver's 2004 debut, Contraband.
Although Weiland has reportedly been clean since then, he and his wife were involved in a room-wrecking incident at a hotel earlier this year that was allegedly due to his wife being off her medication for bipolar disorder.
Meanwhile, Velvet Revolver just scrapped a five-date Australian tour set to take place this week due to unspecified "health issues." The cancellation comes on the heels of the band's Japanese tour getting pulled when Japanese immigration officials refused to allow some members of the band into the country because they had arrest records.
It is not clear if the cancellation of the Japanese and Australian tours are related to Weiland's arrest.
Velvet Revolver is scheduled to play on December 29th at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey and on New Year's Eve, December 31st, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.
