Scott Weiland denies DUI reports
Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland has denied that he was arrested for driving under the influence of a drug on November 21st, according to a statement issued by his publicist. The statement said, "Scott was not driving under the influence of a drug, legal or illegal. He voluntarily took a breathalyzer test which the defense believes registers well within the legal limit. He is anxious to get to court...and clear this matter up." Weiland was apparently driving on a Los Angeles highway at approximately 6:15 p.m. PT when he crashed. According to a police report obtained by TMZ.com, the singer failed a sobriety test administered by California Highway Patrol officers. He also refused to submit for a blood or urine test when taken to jail. Weiland was released on $40,000 bail and will face the charges in court on December 13th.Weiland has a long history of drug-related legal problems. He was eventually busted on a DUI charge in 2003, which led to an extensive stint in rehab just before the release of Velvet Revolver's 2004 debut, Contraband.
The former Stone Temple Pilots frontman has reportedly been clean and sober since early 2004.
Velvet Revolver just scrapped a five-date Australian tour set to take place this week due to unspecified "health issues." It is not clear if the cancellation was related to Weiland's arrest.
Velvet Revolver is scheduled to play on December 29th at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey and on New Year's Eve, December 31st, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.
