Foo Fighters performing with contest winners at Grammy Awards
Foo Fighters will participate in this year's "My Grammy Moment" segment at the 50th annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 10th in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS. According to RollingStone.com, a selection of unknown string, woodwind and brass players will get the chance to perform with Foo Fighters on the song "The Pretender." A panel will choose 45 quarter-finalists from which the public will choose the final group of players. The grand prize winner will be showcased as the "featured player" during the performance. Anyone interested in participating should record a performance video less than one minute in length and submit it at youtube.com/mygrammymoment. Last year's winner got to sing a duet with Justin Timberlake.
Foo Fighters are nominated for five Grammy Awards this year, including Album of the Year for its latest CD, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, and Record of the Year for "The Pretender." Frontman Dave Grohl told us that he's amazed at getting the nod for two of the biggest Grammys: "When you get nominated for, like, album of the year, it's almost like a fluke. It's like, 'Really? Just us? Our little band?' you know. So it's amazing, it's a good feeling. It still feels weird, you know, because we still feel like we're in the basement studio in Virginia. But something's changed, I don't know what it is."
The band kicks off a North American tour on January 16th in Sunrise, Florida, with dates plotted through early March.
