The Rolling Stones sign one album deal

The Rolling Stones have signed a one-album deal with Universal Music for the release of the soundtrack to their upcoming Martin Scorsese-directed documentary Shine A Light. Billboard reported that the album will be released in both physical and digital formats in March.

The news of the Stones Universal deal comes a month before the band's contract with EMI/Virgin comes to a close, and raises the question of who the Stones will sign with next. The band owns all of their post-1970 masters, which includes all of their albums from Sticky Fingers up through their most recent, 2005's A Bigger Bang. As with their previous multimillion dollar contracts with Atlantic and later with CBS, the Stones will take their entire catalogue with them in the new move.

Universal currently administers the Stones' 1963 to 1970 catalog, and should the Stones decide to sign with Universal, it would be the first time that the band's entire catalogue were under one label.

Shine A Light was shot in 2006 at New York City's Beacon Theatre. The film features special guests Buddy Guy, the White Stripes' Jack White, and Christine Aguilera.

The film will premiere at the Berlin Film Festival on February 7th, with the Stones set to attend the UK premiere on April 2nd at London's Leicester Square.

Shine A Light will open in select U.S. theaters on April 4th.
