Aerosmith the focus of new Guitar Hero game
Aerosmith is the subject of the first Guitar Hero video game to focus on a single group, Billboard reports. Activision Inc. announced Guitar Hero: Aerosmith on Friday (February 15th), saying the game, arriving this summer, signals a new direction for the billion-dollar Guitar Hero franchise, which allows users to play along with songs on a guitar-shaped controller outfitted with color buttons representing different notes. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith features about 30 of the bands songs, plus tracks from various acts who've opened for the veteran rockers over the years. To recreate the Aerosmith concert experience, Activision held motion-capture sessions with frontman Steven Tyler, lead guitarist Joe Perry and other band members so that users will see the rockers making stage moves as they play along with the songs.
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is the first edition of the game to focus mainly on one artist. Previous editions featured dozens of artists from the classic rock, metal, punk, grunge and other genres. The company says fans can expect more versions focusing on specific artists.
Since debuting in late 2005, Guitar Hero has racked up sales in excess of one billion dollars. That success prompted Activision's main competitor, Electronic Arts, to team up with MTV for a rival game called Rock Band.
