Jim Morrison door auctioned on eBay
On Saturday (February 2nd) the latest in the series of doors from one of Jim Morrison's childhood homes was been put up for auction on eBay. The Associated Press reported that the "Jim Morrison Home Legacy Series" employs various visual artists to decorate actual doors from a Clearwater, Florida house belonging to Morrison's grandparents, in which Morrison lived as a child from 1944 to 1947. Morrison briefly lived at the house again in the early 1960's while attending St. Petersburg Junior College. The house, which has since been torn down, has had 36 doors including 14 cabinet doors saved by Triangle Development of Clearwater. The organization has enlisted the help of artists to paint the doors using Morrison's lyrics and the music of the Doors to inspire the pieces which are sold, with the proceeds going to various charities.
The door currently on sale was from the house's master bathroom and quotes from the band's 1971 hit "Love Her Madly." The door features a portrait of Morrison and was taken from the master bathroom. The piece was unveiled during a Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra concert dedicated to the Doors' music. Proceeds will benefit the orchestra and an anti-gang initiative.
