Mega stars approached for "World Peace"
Led Zeppelin, Velvet Revolver, Aerosmith, U2, Madonna and other artists have been approached to perform in a series of international concerts for peace beginning on May 17th, according to Billboard.com. A non-profit global peace advocacy group called World Peace One, which is waging a 10-year campaign to bring peace to Earth through concerts, educational initiatives and government action, said it is in discussions with all the above acts as well as ZZ Top, Celine Dion, INXS, Will I. Am, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and others. The group is also speaking with artists from Brazil, China, Turkey and Africa. World Peace One founder Doug Ivanovich says the intent of the organization and the proposed concerts is "to foster and generate the largest peoples' movement, grassroots as well as institutional, in the history of the world."
The idea already has the backing of several governments and a senior member of the family behind the Nobel Peace Prize. The World Peace team includes individuals who have worked on the Woodstock and Live Earth concerts.
No acts have been confirmed yet for the concerts, which would begin on May 17th with shows in Beijing, Istanbul, London, Johannesburg, Miami, Portugal, Brazil, Puerto Rico, India and other locations.
