Nikki Sixx fires back at Motley Crue producer

Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx has fired back at producer Tom Werman, who called Sixx's memoir, The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star, "totally deluded" and "stunningly inaccurate" in a letter to the New York Times. Werman took issue with Sixx's claims that the bassist did all the work in the studio on the Crue albums Theatre of Pain, Shout at the Devil and Girls, Girls, Girls while Werman chatted on the phone.

Sixx responded in a statement posted at Blabbermouth.net, "Tom Werman being worried about what I said in my book about him is just so narcissistic and self-centered. I'm sorry if he got his feelings hurt but I feel that I was kind to Mr. Werman by withholding things from the book that would have jeopardized his marriage and his job security with Elektra at the time...if Mr. Werman wants me to publish a complete accounting of the facts, I'll gladly write a nice short story in the form of a blog that will expose his actions during all the Motley Crue sessions that would make very interesting reading for his wife."

Sixx interviewed others for his book, including members of his own band and Guns N' Roses, to back up his accounts of that period because he was too high at the time to be sure of his own memories. Sixx told us that he was not quite himself in those days: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "I mean, it was a different person. Even though it was the same person in flesh, you know, in spirit it was a person that was on a kamikaze mission. And now I have a different mission."

Werman apparently plans to issue a rebuttal to Sixx sometime in the next few days. The producer retired from music in 2002 and opened a bed and breakfast in Massachusetts.

In other news, Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee posted a message online that the band will begin a new world tour on July 4th. The trek will coincide with the release of the Crue's first all-new studio album in eight years, The Dirt, which is tentatively arriving on July 8th.
