ZZ Top guitarist gets into Valentine's Day spirit
ZZ Top's Billy F. Gibbons knows how he's spending Valentine's Day this year -- at an IKEA home furnishings store in Texas, presiding over a wedding ceremony. Texas couple Paul Burgess and Patricia Calmers won a contest, which not only has the ZZ Top guitarist officiating the nuptials, but also includes a wedding package complete with food and all wedding essentials. Gibbons is legally certified to perform weddings in 49 out of 50 states and, to date, he's joined couples in eight different states, including Hawaii, California and Texas. Gibbons said, "I can think of no better way to spend Valentine's Day than to join a loving couple in wedded bliss in the middle of a cool furniture store. Cupid, you've really done your stuff again."Contest participants were asked to submit an essay, explaining why they should be the winning pair. The decision was made based on originality and "their dream."
On February 24th, ZZ Top will perform during the pre-race festivities at the California Speedway, during the West Coast's premiere event for NASCAR.
ZZ Top will reissue its 1983 album Eliminator on March 25th with bonus tracks and previously unreleased live songs, as well as videos featuring the album's singles and rare live performances. Live tracks include "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Sharp Dressed Man," "TV Dinners" and "Got Me Under Pressure." This year marks the set's 25th anniversary.
