Bon Jovi solicits fan footage for documentary

Bon Jovi is preparing to bring its work to the screen in an upcoming documentary. This is a first for the New Jersey band, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To make it happen, Bon Jovi has tapped Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple and a film crew to join this year's tour and shoot on and off stage footage. But because there's a lack of material from the group's early days, singer Jon Bon Jovi tells us he might need some extra help: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "I think the visual aspect for this generation could be a helpful one. And so we're going to see what we've got. We're going to rely on the kindness of strangers because I really do need to solicit the YouTube world and see who's got what out there. And I've hired a real filmmaker -- an Academy-Award winning documentary filmmaker. I don't know. Maybe it won't go past the first week, but we're going to try."

Guitarist Richie Sambora says the time is right to put out a documentary, particularly because of the Bon Jovi's variety of fans: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "You know the great thing about Bon Jovi fans now I think there's multi-generational fans that we do have at this point. There's probably three generations of Bon Jovi fans. We've been around for almost three decades now. So, there's the new kids that thing that we're a new band that are following us for maybe two or three records. And there's the people that have been following us since the inception of this organization."

Bon Jovi is up for an Academy of Country Music award in the category of Vocal Event of the Year for the song "Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore" featuring LeAnn Rimes. The awards air May 18th on CBS.

Bon Jovi performs in Toronto on Monday, March 10th.
