The Doors "Classic Albums" DVD to be released

The making of the Doors classic self-titled album is now part of the Classic Albums documentary series, and will be released on DVD on April 22nd. The Making of the Doors' Debut Album traces the history of the revolutionary 1967 album in a 90-minute package that features live footage and in-depth interviews with the three surviving band members members -- keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Kreiger and drummer John Densmore -- as they demonstrate the unique musical stylings that contributed to the making of this pivotal album.

Others interviewed include engineer Bruce Botnick, and Doors-influenced musicians Henry Rollins and Perry Farrell.

Ray Manzarek says he thinks that as the band's music ages, it is probably better understood than when it was first recorded: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "I think the time has allowed them to digest the Jungian/Freudian aspect of the Doors songs. I think they've gotten into the depth of the songs a lot more than back in the '60s, and understand it from an intellectual perspective, and are just as wild as the people were in the '60s. I'm surprised at, you know, how uninhibited and how crazy and Dionysian they can actually be."
