Eddie Van Halen's ex says he sounds terrific
Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen's ex-wife, actress Valerie Bertinelli, has spoken to her former husband and says he sounds "terrific," according to Jam Music. Van Halen postponed several dates on its current U.S. tour this week, stating that Eddie was "undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures," although what was ailing the legendary axeman was not revealed. While Bertinelli did not disclose that either, she said, "I just talked to him a couple of days ago...He sounds terrific. He's just being very pro-active. It's not as awful as people think it is. I'm so proud of him right now. He sounded terrific, and hopefully they'll start back up again on (March) 11th." Bertinelli's son with Eddie, Wolfgang Van Halen, is currently playing bass in the band. Bertinelli sometimes accompanies her son on tour. She and her ex-husband are said to be on good terms.
Speculation was rampant that Eddie had either fallen off the wagon or was suffering from a recurrence of cancer after the band postponed four upcoming shows. Initial reports indicated that the entire run was canceled, although the promoter insisted that the trek would resume in Charlottesville, West Virginia on March 11th. The four postponed gigs have already been rescheduled.
Eddie's stint in rehab last year delayed the launch of the band's first tour in 22 years with original singer David Lee Roth from summer to fall.
