John Lennon was ready to work with Paul McCartney in 1975
Out now is the John Lennon photo book Instamatic Karma by Lennon's mid-1970s companion May Pang.
Pang's book features dozens of candid shots of Lennon taken during their 18 month relationship, which spanned from late 1973 to early 1975 while Lennon was separated from Yoko Ono.
Among the highlights in the book are photos of Lennon, who had reunited with his son Julian after not seeing him for more than two years, along with shots of Lennon recording with Harry Nilsson and hanging out with Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney.
Pang's book features one of the only photos taken of Lennon and McCartney after the Beatles' split. She says that a Beatles reunion was never far from her mind: "Getting him back with Paul. Paul was the biggest, obviously. And I almost got them to write. It was in January of '75, we had seen Paul and Linda (McCartney), and we'd go out to dinner, they'd come by the house. And one morning he's thinking and he says, "Hey, I wanna ask you something' and I said 'What?' he said, 'Do you think I should write with Paul again? I was just thinking -- what do you think?' And I said, 'The two of you, solo-wise, you're good, but when the two of you get together there's a magic that can't be broken." He just sort of looked at me and went, 'Yeah.'"
Pang's relationship with Lennon broke down just as the pair was making plans to join McCartney in New Orleans while he recorded the Wings album Venus And Mars.
According to Pang, Ono lured Lennon back home to New York with what she claimed was a cure for smoking. Several days later Lennon informed Pang that he was moving back in with Ono.
Pang and Lennon continued their affair until 1978, and last spoke several months before Lennon's murder.
Instamatic Karma sells for around $30.
