Rush & Foo Fighters in Toronto
Foo Fighters were joined onstage by Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and bassist Geddy Lee during the Foos' performance on Saturday night (March 22nd) in Toronto. The pair showed up about an hour into the Foo's two-hour-plus set to play with drummer Taylor Hawkins on both his drum solo and an impromptu version of the Rush instrumental "YYZ" from the trio's 1981 album Moving Pictures. Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl led the crowd in a chant of "Rush! Rush" as Lifeson and Lee left the stage, also telling Hawkins that he had "nuts the size of grapefruits" to jam with the legendary prog-rock musicians.Footage of the event shot by fans can be seen on YouTube and other outlets.
Rush and Foo Fighters have a common friend in producer Nick Raskulinecz, who has worked in the past with the Foos and produced Rush's latest studio effort, 2006's Snakes & Arrows.
Foo Fighters continued its North American tour on Tuesday (March 25th) in Winnipeg, Canada, while Rush will launch a new leg of its Snakes & Arrows trek on April 11th in Puerto Rico.
