Serj Tankian launches two new websites

Serj Tankian has launched two new Web sites, according to Undercover News. The first, electthedead.com, shares the name of his recently released debut solo album and focuses on political issues such as elimination of the Electoral College, capping corporate contributions to political campaigns, tax reforms and the abolishment of lobbying firms. Tankian said in a statement, "The process is tilted toward moneyed interests in this democracy. It's time to change that. No matter whom we choose to vote for, the reform of the current system, whether it's regarding the influence of corporate lobbyists or campaign finance reform, is long overdue."

The second site, skyisover.net, centers on environmental issues and features a list of links to numerous organizations such as the Sierra Club and Greenpeace. Tankian told us that he's surprised at the number of people he meets who are resistant to the idea that climate change is real: "People still don't get it, that everything that is happening is a product of that. The fact that we have no humidity in Southern California, the fact that it's so dry here, the fact that, you know, it's flooding somewhere else where it shouldn't be flooding, the fact that Atlanta's running out of water...like, there's all this stuff happening, the hurricanes on the Southeast and tsunamis, and still people come up and say, 'Well, I don't know if I believe in it.' And I'm like, 'Well, cool, I guess you can believe in whatever you want to believe in.'"

Tankian joins Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello and others who have contributed songs to the soundtrack of Body of War, a new documentary about a soldier named Tomas Young who was shot and paralyzed from the waist down during his first week of duty in Iraq. The two-CD set arrives on March 18th, while the movie opens in New York on April 9th and nationwide later in the spring.

Tankian will join Morello and others to perform at a Body of War soundtrack release party in Austin, Texas at the South by Southwest Festival.

Tankian finished an opening stint for Foo Fighters on Thursday (March 6th) and begins a short run of headlining dates on Saturday (March 8th) in San Francisco.
