Bob Dylan receives honorary Pulitzer
Bob Dylan received an honorary Pulitzer Prize on April 7th, marking the first Pulitzer given to a member of the rock community, reports The Associated Press.Dylan's five decades of work received a citation for its "profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power."
Fellow Pulitzer winner David Lang, who won the competitive prize for music for his piece The Little Match Girl Passion, saluted Dylan, saying, "Bob Dylan is the most frequently played artist in my household so the idea that I am honored at the same time as Bob Dylan... is humbling."
The Pulitzer Prize is administered through New York's Columbia University, and is regarded as the highest national honor in print journalism, literature, and musical composition.
Apart from Dylan's reputation as one of rock's greatest lyricists, the first installment of his memoirs, called Chronicles, Volume One, received a National Book Critics Circle nomination in 2005. Dylan is still working on the second volume.
He released his critically acclaimed album Modern Times in 2006, which marked his first Number One album in over 30 years.
