Metallica: New website for new album

Metallica has set up a web site at MissionMetallica.com to promote the band's upcoming ninth studio album. The site will go live in May and says it will offer fans a chance to "experience the new album before it's done." A postcard about the site was also included with the recently released vinyl reissues of the band's Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning albums. Metallica has been recording its yet-to-be-titled new album with producer Rick Rubin. The disc is tentatively scheduled for release in September, with a single coming around the same time.

Drummer Lars Ulrich recently told Revolver magazine that the band's new material "is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds...There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes."

Metallica has scheduled a slew of European festival dates for May, June, July and August in addition to two U.S. shows on May 16th at a radio festival in Tucson, Arizona and mid-June at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee. There are also rumors that the band will co-headline a two-day version of Ozzfest with Ozzy Osbourne at two separate locations this summer.
