New Rolling Stones movie opens big
The Rolling Stones' live concert film Shine A Light opened big last weekend, raking in $1.5 million in box offices receipts, according to Billboard.Although the opening weekend tally of the Martin Scorsese-directed film falls short of the usual numbers for big budget studio movies, for a live concert movie the receipts were impressive. Shine A Light also beat U2's most recent big screen outing, U23D, which earned $1.02 million during its opening weekend last February.
Mick Jagger says that he was worried that the archival footage of the Stones interspersed within the film would seem distracting to the viewer expecting a more straight-ahead concert film: [

I felt that we'd lose it, that we're going off into another movie, and that we're forgetting that we're in a concert. 'Cause it was kind of very riveting, sometime that old movie. But if it goes on sometimes too long, you wanna come back to the concert stage. In the end, we ended up with what we have, which is good." The Stones have just launched their own website for the movie at youtube.com/livinglegends. The site features new video introductions from Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, selections from Shine A Light, recent live clips from the band, and vintage videos. Fans are asked to contribute questions to be personally answered by the band.
The Rolling Stones' Shine A Light is in theaters now.
