Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx to be honored by Covenant House
Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx will be one of the honorees at the ninth annual Covenant House California Awards Gala, scheduled for Friday (May 9th) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. A portion of the proceeds from Sixx's 2007 memoir, The Heroin Diaries, benefits his charity Running Wild In The Night, which provides a creative arts program for Covenant House California at their youth shelters in Los Angeles and Oakland. Sixx said in a statement, "My partnership with Covenant House is so important to me because I've been that kid on the streets. When I became aware that so many kids come through Covenant House but don't stay long enough to get the care and treatment many of them need, I created the Running Wild In The Night program as a way to engage their creativity and encourage them to stick around a while to get themselves on a better path for good."Sixx said that the lifestyle he led during the depths of his heroin addiction in the late '80s pales in comparison to the productive life he is living now: [

Now, president of a record company, have my own clothing line, father of four -- you know, single father, it's a lot different than being a married father -- two bands, an author, there's just so much going on, it's insane." Covenant House California has taken in more than 150,000 homeless youth since 1988. The non-profit organization says its mission is to "protect and safeguard all children of the street" through comprehensive services of street outreach, residential programs and supportive services.
Sixx will be honored alongside Borba Skin Products founder and CEO Scott-Vincent Borba. The event will also include live and silent auctions and will be hosted by current Dancing with the Stars contestant Cristian de la Fuente.
Previous honorees include Charlize Theron, Ray Charles, William Shatner, Andy Garcia, Sharon Osbourne and many more.
Motley Crue has announced a June 17th release date for the band's ninth studio album, Saints of Los Angeles.
The band will support the disc with a massive summer package tour called Crue Fest, which will begin on July 1st in West Palm Beach, Florida and hit more than 40 cities, closing out on August 31st in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
