The Offspring blasting back with "Hammerhead"

The Offspring blast back onto rock radio on Tuesday (May 6th) with "Hammerhead," the first single from the veteran punk act's new album, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace. The track is also available for streaming at the group's official web site. Singer Dexter Holland told us that "Hammerhead" is written like a movie with a twist ending: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "When you listen to the song at the beginning, it sounds like it's about someone who's basically good. They might be struggling with what's going on, the fact that they're asked to commit violence, I guess, but thinks that he's doing it for a greater good and is willing to deal with it even though it's messing with him a little bit. As the song goes on you kind of realize that it's really about someone who's much more diabolical than that, someone who's basically evil."

Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace will arrive on June 17th. It follows up the band's 2003 release, Splinter.

The band utilized Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese for the recording sessions, although Pete Parada is now the official Offspring drummer. The disc was produced by longtime Metallica producer Bob Rock.

A special gatefold vinyl edition of the record, with access to a free download version, will be issued alongside the traditional CD and digital release.

The Offspring will play radio festivals in San Diego on May 16th, Los Angeles on the 17th and Santa Barbara, California on the 18th before heading overseas for a summer European run.
