Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam salute The Who

The Who was saluted on Saturday night (July 12th) with performances by Pearl Jam, the Foo Fighters, Incubus, the Flaming Lips, Tenacious D, and Adam Sandler, before performing a nine-song set themselves, during the taping of VH1 Rock Honors: The Who at Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles. Among the highlights were "Young Man Blues" and "Bargain" performed by Foo Fighters, a Tommy medley from the Flaming Lips, and Incubus doing "I Can See For Miles" and "I Can't Explain." Tenacious D handled "Squeeze Box," while Pearl Jam belted out "Love Reign O'er Me" and "The Real Me."

The Who's set included classics such as "Baba O'Riley," "The Seeker," "Won't Get Fooled Again," "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Who Are You."

Throughout the night various video tributes were shown saluting the band's late cofounders Keith Moon and John Entwistle, who died in 1978 and 2002, respectively. Previously taped video tributes were played featuring testimonials from Sting, Noel Gallagher, Billy Idol, Dave Navarro, Slash, Coldplay, and Billy Bob Thornton.

Other celebrities on hand to pay personal tribute included David Duchovny, That '70s' Show's Mila Kunis, The Office's Rainn Wilson dressed as Elton John as the "Pinball Wizard" in the film Tommy, and Sean Penn who introduced Pearl Jam.

The Associated Press reported that VH1 Rock Honors: The Who raised over $1 million for various charities, including the Who's Double O Charity, Roger Daltrey's charity the UK's Teenage Cancer Trust, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, and select VH1 Classic Rock Autism organizations.

VH1 Rock Honors: The Who premieres on Thursday, July 17th, at 9 p.m. on VH1, VH1 Classic and MHD.
