Metallica's "Death Magnetic" track listing unveiled
Metallica has unveiled the track listing for its upcoming ninth studio album, Death Magnetic. The song titles have been a source of speculation among fans for months, with even journalists only given temporary or working titles while hearing selected tracks. Among the 10 tunes included on the album is "The Unforgiven III," the latest in a series that started with "The Unforgiven" on 1991's self-titled "black album" and continued with "The Unforgiven II" from 1997's Reload.Metallica also recently revealed the cover art for Death Magnetic, while frontman James Hetfield discussed the title with VG TV. Hetfield explained, "It started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business, like (Alice in Chains frontman) Layne Staley and a lot of the people that have died, basically -- rock and roll martyrs of sorts. And then it kind of grew from there. Thinking about death...just like a magnet, some people are drawn towards it, (and) other people are afraid of it and push away."
What Metallica hasn't revealed yet, however, is the album's release date. Death Magnetic is due out in September, but an exact date has still not been announced.
Metallica is currently on tour in Europe and is expected to begin a North American jaunt in October.
The complete track listing for Death Magnetic is:
"That Was Just Your Life"
"The End Of The Line"
"Broken, Beat & Scarred"
"The Day That Never Comes"
"All Nightmare Long"
"Cyanide"
"The Unforgiven III"
"The Judas Kiss"
"Suicide & Redemption"
"My Apocalypse"
