Motley Crue guitarist says he is shrinking
Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars recently told Blender magazine that the form of arthritis he's afflicted with, called Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), is making him smaller as he gets older. Mars revealed, "This AS crap has shrunk me down really small. I used to be almost five-foot-nine, and I'm just a little over five-three now. It stinks...I'm just squashed." Mars added that he's unable to go out due to the effects of the disease, explaining, "If I could go places I would, but I'm stuck. This stuff I have won't allow me to move my head, so I can't drive. It's quite an inconvenience."
Mars, whose real name is Bob Deal, is 57 years old. He was diagnosed with the disease when he was 17.
He had hip replacement surgery in 2004, which allowed him to return to the road with Motley Crue for the band's successful 2005/2006 reunion tour.
Mars and the rest of the Crue are currently out with the first Crue Fest, a festival-style tour also featuring Buckcherry, Papa Roach and others. The tour pulls into Darien Center, New York on Wednesday (July 9th).
Motley Crue's first new album since 2000, Saints of Los Angeles, debuted at Number Four last week on the Billboard album chart.
