Motley Crue kicks off Crue Fest

Motley Crue launched its inaugural Crue Fest tour on Tuesday night (July 1st) at the Cruzan Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida, with Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Trapt and Crue bassist Nikki Sixx's side band, Sixx: A.M., joining the headliners. The Crue's 13-song set only featured two songs from their new album, Saints of Los Angeles, which Sixx chalked up to time constraints and audience demand: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "Obviously people want to hear the hits, you know, and if you don't play the hits, you're being one of those artists that go, 'We only play the new music.' Then the fans are disappointed. If you don't play any new music, fans are disappointed. So it's a balancing act. You have to struggle with how much time you have. That's the other problem, you know. It's like, you're playing a festival, how much time do you have to actually play?"

Crue Fest next stops in Tampa, Florida on Thursday (July 3rd). The 40-city tour wraps up on August 31st in Pennsylvania.

The band was joined by Buckcherry vocalist Josh Todd, Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix, Trapt singer Chris Brown and Sixx: A.M.'s James Michael for the song "Saints of Los Angeles."

The album of the same name debuted at Number Four on this week's Billboard album chart, selling 99,000 copies.
