New Guns N' Roses song leads "Rock Band 2" lineup

A brand new song from Guns N' Roses called "Shackler's Revenge" leads the 75-song playlist for the highly anticipated video game Rock Band 2, it was announced on Monday (July 14th) by game publishing partners Harmonix, MTV Games and Electronic Arts. The unveiling of the lineup was made at the 2008 E3 Media and Business Summit, where new and updated features of the second edition of the game were also revealed. A total of 84 songs will be included with the game itself, with 20 more to be made available for free downloading in the fall. Among the other artists contributing tracks to Rock Band 2 are Judas Priest, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Nirvana, The Who, Motorhead, Jimmy Eat World, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more.

The game will include the first and so far only video game appearances of songs by AC/DC and Bob Dylan, who have contributed "Let There Be Rock" and "Tangled Up in Blue" respectively.

According to fan message board posts, the Guns N' Roses song is based on a never-released movie that featured music by since-departed Guns guitarist Buckethead and drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia. One post said the track is "supposed to be a pretty guitar driven rocker of a song with an amazing hook/bridge."

There's no indication whether "Shackler's Revenge" will appear on the long-delayed Guns N' Roses album, Chinese Democracy, or whether its inclusion on Rock Band 2 means that a release date for the CD is finally imminent.

Guns singer Axl Rose is the only original member of the current lineup of the band, but his longtime friend and confidante, former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach, says Axl is all you need: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "Once you've got him in your band, good luck finding a guy to replace that guy, 'cause if there's anybody that's pretty much irreplaceable, I'd say it's Axl Rose."

Rock Band 2 will make its debut on Xbox 360 this September, and will be available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Wii systems later this year.
