AC/DC day declared in Vancouver
November 28th has been declared "AC/DC Day" in Vancouver, Canada, according to the Vancouver Province. The announcement was made by Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan on a morning radio show in the British Columbia city. Apparently the station has been after the mayor to make some sort of proclamation -- of any kind -- for two years, and he finally responded with the "AC/DC Day" idea. AC/DC recorded its new album, Black Ice, at the historic Warehouse Studios, which was originally the location of Vancouver's first city hall. The band is scheduled to play in Vancouver on the 28th, although it's not clear yet whether they'll be on hand for the official proclamation. In other news: As predicted, Black Ice stayed atop the Billboard albums chart in its second week of release, selling 271,000 copies and sending its overall total past one million.
The album is available exclusively through Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, and AC/DC's website.
Eleven new albums debuted on this week's chart although none were able to topple the Australian rockers. The next biggest rock debut, Snow Patrol's A Hundred Million Suns, sold 48,000 copies to enter at Number Nine.
