Guitar Hero: Metallica confirmed
Metallica has confirmed that the long-rumored Guitar Hero: Metallica will tentatively arrive in the first half of 2009. A post at the band's official website announced, "Yes, we know, it's the worst-kept secret in rock 'n' roll but we're here now to finally confirm that there will indeed be an all-Metallica Guitar Hero game released in the first half (!?) of 2009. Guitar Hero: Metallica allows you to play as us in either single instrument or band career game modes in your choice of some famous settings or new venues with in-the-round staging ... Over the next few months, we're going to be updating you with track listings, more features, of course how and when you can get the game, and some cool previews of the game right here on the site. As you've heard us say before, keep checking back for more details!"The post added that the game will include 28 Metallica songs, as well as tracks from Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Queen, Slayer and others.
One person likely to play the game is drummer Lars Ulrich, who told us he's already played Metallica songs on Guitar Hero: World Tour at home with his kids: "It's awesome. It's been a lot of fun. I've played it three or four times with my kids, it's awesome. 'Cyanide' is the easiest one to play, that's the one I start with. By the time we get over to some of the other stuff, then it gets a little more complicated, but it's a lot of fun."
According to gaming site 1UP.com, Guitar Hero: Metallica will allow full band play and include a new difficulty level for drummers, featuring double bass drum pedals, along with new Metallica guitar tones. Metallica tracks rumored for inclusion:
"Enter Sandman"
"For Whom The Bell Tolls"
"Fuel"
"Hit The Lights"
"King Nothing"
"Master of Puppets"
"No Leaf Clover"
"Nothing Else Matters"
"Sad But True"
"The Unforgiven"
"Wherever I May Roam"
Rumored songs by other artists:
"No Excuses" - Alice In Chains
"Turn The Page" - Bob Seger
"Hell Bent For Leather" - Judas Priest
"Demon Cleaner" - Kyuss
"Tuesday's Gone" - Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Blood and Thunder" - Mastodon
"Armed and Ready" - Michael Schenker Group
"Mother of Mercy" - Samhain
"Black River" - The Sword
Guitar Hero: Metallica will be the second artist-specific game in the franchise behind this year's Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
In other video game news, Pearl Jam's 1991 debut album Ten will be made available for the Rock Band game on March 24th, the same day that a deluxe reissue edition of the album arrives in stores.
