U2 shoots new video; Bono named "Man Of Peace"

U2 has filmed a video for the first single from its upcoming new album, according to a post at U2.com. The Irish group was in London last week to shoot the clip, with the post stating, "We are sworn to secrecy on the finer details of the shoot... but there may have been some marching girls involved. With their boots on." The last sentence could be a hint about the song's title, which is rumored to be "Sexy Boots." The new U2 record, tentatively called No Line on the Horizon, is due out sometime in the first half of 2009 after the band bumped it from a late 2008 arrival.

In other news, U2 frontman Bono was given the annual "Man of Peace" award by a gathering of Nobel Prize winners on Friday (December 12th) in Paris. According to Google News, Bono was bestowed with the award for his continuing efforts to battle debt, poverty and disease in Africa. Bono said at the ceremony, "This is a very big award for me, because let's be honest, this is as close as I am going to get -- as close as a rock star is ever going to get to the Nobel Peace Prize."

The singer acknowledged the Nobel Prize winners in the room, saying, "I am an over-awarded, over-rewarded rock star. You are the people who do the real work."

Last year's recipients of the award were actors George Clooney and Don Cheadle, who have spoken out against the violence in Darfur.
