Singer confirms jamming with Led Zeppelin members

Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy finally confirmed that he jammed with the instrumental members of Led Zeppelin late last year, according to Zeppelin new blog Lemon Squeezings. Interviewed at last weekend's National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) convention in Anaheim, California, by online program The Blairing Out Show, Kennedy revealed, "I'm not singing in Led Zeppelin or any offshoot of Led Zeppelin, but I did have a great opportunity and it was something that (I'm) very grateful for." He added that being in a rehearsal room with the members of Led Zeppelin was "surreal. It was great."

Kennedy got together with guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones, and drummer Jason Bonham sometime in 2008, although both he and the band would not confirm his involvement as late as two weeks ago.

Page, Jones, and Bonham decided to check out other vocalists after Robert Plant made it clear he had no interest in doing more with Zeppelin at this time, despite a well-received reunion at a benefit concert in December 2007.

Kennedy did not say whether he had rehearsed new material with the group or practiced songs from the Zeppelin catalog. He added, "I'll tell that story someday, but for now it was a good experience, and I'm still pinching myself."

Kennedy said that Alter Bridge was working on music for its third album. Three members of that group were formerly in Creed, and talk of that band reuniting escalated after word got out about Kennedy's audition with Zeppelin.

Jimmy Page's manager, Peter Mensch, revealed two weeks ago that while the Zeppelin members had auditioned some singers, the idea of an offshoot project had eventually been abandoned.

Plant, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the reunion show in 2007 but said he did not wish to go on the road for an extended amount of time after touring for the last year in support of his Grammy-winning album with Alison Krauss, Raising Sand. The pair are reportedly working on a follow-up disc.
