Pink Floyd vs EMI Records

Pink Floyd is suing EMI Records, its record company of 43 years, accusing the label of "miscalculating" their royalty payments. Rolling Stone reported that the band most likely filed suit against EMI and its private equity firm owners Terra Firma after its latest negotiations which transpire every three years.

There has been no word as to how much the band is seeking in back payment and damages. Floyd is second only to the Beatles in terms of annual catalogue sales for the label.

David Gilmour has never cozied up to record labels and that part of the business, but he admits that they are useful for marketing his music in a commercially unbiased way: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "If I had a very clear idea of what I wanted to be a single, I would have stated it. But I like to ask what the record company people feel that they could support -- and I'm often not the best person to know what would be the best single."
