Robert Plant: Mighty Rearranger

Written by The Rock Radio staff, June 2005 © The Rock Radio

Mighty Rearranger by Robert Plant and his band, the Strange Sensation, is a solid piece of work.

In performing the songs, the former Led Zeppelin frontman gives his heart and soul but the album does not capture the magic of Led Zeppelin. This is not Plant's fault though. Where the album fails is at the guitar solos. They are flat, uninspired and unispiring.

Not surprisingly, country, blues and even ethnic melodies feature stongly but lyrically is where Plant excels: "Freedom fries and burns and scars, The liberator goes too far, Freedom fries and screams and yells, The promised land is promised hell" is Plant's critisism of western arrogance in the Iraq war.

Musically, there are two real gems on Mighty Rearranger: the self-titled track and the first single, Shine It All Around.

All in all, Mighty Rearranger is a must buy for any genuine Led Zeppelin fan.
