Brad Delp left suicide notes at house
It has been revealed that the late Boston singer Brad Delp left a series of notes at his house in Atkinson, New Hampshire, where he committed suicide on March 9th. The first was on the door that led from his garage to his house, and it read, "To whoever finds this, I have hopefully committed suicide. Plan B was to asphyxiate myself in my car." Delp had connected a dryer vent hose to the exhaust pipe of his car. A second note inside the house warned that there was carbon monoxide in the house, and it read, "I take complete and sole responsibility for my present situation. I have lost my desire to live." It also gave instructions on how to contact his fiancee Pamela Sullivan, and it said, "Unfortunately, she is totally unaware of what I have done."
Finally, there was a note attached to Delp's shirt which read, "Mr. Brad Delp. J'ai une ame solitaire. I am a lonely soul." The French portion of the note translates as "I have a solitary heart."
Sullivan told police that Delp had suffered from depression, had felt bad about himself, and had felt emotional for some time. She also told The Boston Herald, "To the rest of the world, this is a big story. But to Brad and (his ex-wife) Micki's children and me, it's very different."
In addition to the suicide notes, Delp left sealed letters for Sullivan, Delp's children Jennifer and John Michael, his ex-wife Micki, and an unnamed couple, according to the Associated Press.
Delp also left word that he had locked his and Sullivan's cat Floppy in a safe place so that she would be safe while he took his life.
Delp was 55 years old. Sullivan went to the house after being unable to reach him by phone, and she saw the dryer hose on his car and called the police. His body was found on the floor of his bathroom, with his head on a pillow. Delp had sealed himself inside the room and lit two charcoal grills, which led to his death by carbon monoxide poisoning. The singer was cremated on Wednesday (March 14th), and his family has already held a private funeral for him. Information on a public memorial will be announced at a later date.
