Paul McCartney eyeing fall tour to promote new album

Paul McCartney will hit the road sometime in the fall to promote his upcoming album, which is expected out in June. McCartney's lead guitarist Rusty Anderson posted an update on his myspace.com blog (myspace.com/rustyandersonmusic) saying that, "On the Paul McCartney scene, last I heard the tour is postponed 'til the fall. I'm not quite sure where yet. The record that we started and got over half done with Paul at Abbey Road (Studios) a while back should be finished by now. It sounds amazing. Very dynamic and colorful."

Rusty Anderson says that recording with McCartney at the legendary Abbey Road Studios where the Beatles recorded the majority of their work is a surreal experience: "That's pretty trippy. It was really fun, you know, having Paul show us around and say, 'Oh, this is the room that we recorded (the Beatles') 'Yer Blues' in. We all set up in this little tiny room and crammed the drums and the amps and everybody in there, and recorded it.' And I'm like, 'Damn!' (Laughs) That's pretty amazing.'"

The still-untitled album will be McCartney's 21st mainstream solo studio set, and his first for his new label Hear Music.

Although there are no substantial details about where and when McCartney will launch the tour, a UK ticket broker has posted on its website scarletmist.com seven unconfirmed stadium dates in Britain and Scotland ranging from July through October.

McCartney's official photographer Bill Bernstein is wrapping up his multi-city exhibition of photos from McCartney's 2002-2003 world tour at New York City's Morrison Hotel Gallery. The photos, which formed the basis of McCartney's photo tour book called Each One Believing, will be on display through April 15th.

Bernstein, who's been on the road shooting McCartney since 1989, said that being allowed such unique live and intimate backstage access was a gift: "The opportunity to photograph McCartney's entire world tour and to be given such astounding access has been a high point of my career... These photographs are the result of McCartney's generosity and his unique ability to encourage fertile ground for creativity." For more information log on to morrisonhotelgallery.com/soho.

A pair of John Lennon's blue sunglasses will be auctioned off for charity next month. The glasses, which are expected to sell for around $6,000, are part of the Icons of Music auction to be held at New York's Hard Rock Cafe to raise money for the Music Rising charity. The charity was started in 2005 by U2 guitarist The Edge to help raise money to replace instruments lost by musicians in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Londonnet.co.uk reported that among the other 200 items going under the block on April 21st will be a Bob Dylan handwritten setlist, a love letter from Janis Joplin to a former boyfriend, Bruce Springsteen's handwritten song lyrics, guitars from the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney, former President Bill Clinton's saxophone, as well as personal items from Eric Clapton, late Ray Charles, James Brown and Jim Morrison.
